Dr Ajay Narasimhan is particularly interested in general thoracic surgery, which involves work on the mediastinum, pleura, thymus gland, and lungs. His other areas of study include trachea-esophageal fistulas and intricate tracheal procedures. He has received training in VATS, or video assisted thoracic surgery, a minimally invasive procedure for the chest. He holds the distinction of being the first in a government setting in Tamil Nadu to do a VATS Lobectomy. Dr Ajay Narasimhan is a sought-after faculty in various National and International Conferences in the field of Thoracic surgery.

Won the Thoracic Surgery Quiz at IACTS Midterm Thoracic CME at Vellore held in 2014.
Was a part of the first Asian team to win the ESTS Masters Cup an international quiz competition in thoracic surgery which was held at Portugal in the year 2015
