The mission to reclaim your life is the true essence of recovery in cancer care!

Cancer recovery is a long journey with many phases. Effective treatment marks the conclusion of a critical chapter but also the beginning of an equally important one: rehabilitation. Cancer treatment is a hard and taxing process – the side effects are often debilitating and mentally scarring. At APCC, we are guided by the unifying mission to conquer cancer and provide a high quality of life to our patients.

Rehabilitation is a key focus area at APCC. Our unique ability to help patients is greatly augmented by our team approach. Our beacon in this vital journey is the patient. Restoring their physical function, cognitive ability and minimizing pain are the pillars of our rehabilitation program. To give them a new normal, each plan is customized to the need of the patients.

A definitive edge in advance rehabilitation care

At APCC, we ensure that our patients are provided rehabilitation care of the highest standards. Our pursuit of excellence is powered by the following:

  • A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH: At APCC, rehabilitation is an integral part of our Cancer Management Teams. This integrated approach ensures greater collaboration and leverages the strengths and expertise of several teams. This way we are able to deliver holistic and advanced care to our patients.
  • PERSONALIZED CARE: A customized care plan is prepared by our team, keeping the unique needs of the patient in mind. This bespoke plan is influenced by key factors like the degree of memory and thought changes, loss of flexibility and movement, swelling caused by abnormalities in the lymphatic system, the extent of muscle weakening, numbness, pain and distress, among many others.
  • MULTI-MODAL REHAB: Rehab at APCC covers a wide range of specialized fields. We bring to the table an array of services to address physical, mental, and even spiritual concerns. It is this 360-degree approach that makes our Tender Loving Care the most powerful mantra in cancer care.

The need for rehabilitation is driven by the few signs that occur post cancer treatment

  • Decreased strength
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Pain
  • Difficulty in walking
  • Decreased balance
  • Neuropathy (tingling, numbness, pain, or weakness due to nerve damage)
  • Fatigue related to treatment for cancer
  • Scar tissue adhesions
  • Radiation fibrosis

Integrated approach to rehabilitation at APCC

  • Physician: Leads the team, and decides what diagnostic tests should be done, and what treatment should be prescribed.
  • Physical Therapist: Helps patients recover strength, flexibility, endurance and mobility. They also treat pain and inflammation.
  • Occupational Therapist: Focuses on helping patients address issues of strength, coordination and range of motion. They also help patients resume daily activities of normal life and work.
  • Speech and Language Pathologist: Addresses the problems with language comprehension or expressions, as well as swallowing issues.
  • Rehabilitation Nursing specialists: handle all of the usual nursing functions but also focus on helping patients with bowel and bladder function, sexuality issues, and providing education and support for the family.
  • Counsellors: Take care of the patient’s mental health, and help them adjust to a life that may be different from what they had previously experienced.
  • Registered Dietician: Prepares the best diet for someone undergoing cancer treatment and/or rehabilitation. A dietician can offer guidance as to how to gain or lose weight, and improve energy levels through nutrition.

To help patients on a case to case basis, APCC also brings to the table specialized skills like Recreational Therapy, and advanced prosthetics, among others.
